Fans react to Anthony Joshua's defeat by Andy Ruiz
Following a sensational loss in a truly remarkable fight at New York's Madison Square Garden, Anthony Joshua the Nigerian, British Boxer has come out to defend himself and promise his fans a better outcome in future matches.
"I got beaten by a good fighter," said 29-year-old Joshua. "It will be interesting to see how far he goes, but this is all part of the journey.
"He's a champion for now, I shall return."
Joshua had three world titles before this match. He was a 1-25 favourite with bookmakers, with 22 wins - 21 by knockout - going into the fight. He will now join the likes of Lennox Lewis and Mike Tyson as dominant champions to suffer losses which brought the sport to a standstill.
Fan's have continued to argue, the fight was staged. A twitter user @TomiDPlug_ shares his thought on the result of the match
My opinion. The fight was staged. Anthony Joshua wants to beat wilder while handing over his belt for safe keeping with Ruiz. So he can beat Andy Ruiz and take the belt back in nov/dec. even if he loses to wilder he’s not risking nothing. pic.twitter.com/ULoUyhpq5E— Oluwatomi (@TomiDPlug_) June 2, 2019
The fight saw the highly celebrated boxer hit the canvas at least twice in the 7th Round after an performance in the 3rd Round.
It is important to note that his opponent Andy Ruiz was an underdog in every sense of the words, he took the fight 6 weeks to the bout and fans bought tickets which still had the name of Jarell Miller - Joshua's intended opponent. He was dubbed unglamorous due to his chubby phsyique.
OMG! OMG! I cannot believe this S$&@$! Anthony Joshua — holder of 3 belts, gets TKO’d by Butter Bean.......I mean some dude named Andy Ruiz JR. What a damn disgrace. Joshua looked completely gassed! More fatigued than hurt! Now how in the Hell did you let that happen? How?— Stephen A Smith (@stephenasmith) June 2, 2019
